In Western Australia, every testable backflow device has to be tested each year by a licensed plumber and the certificate lodged with the water authority. What backflow is, and why the coast makes it worse
Backflow happens when water reverses direction in your pipes, usually from a pressure drop on the mains or back-pressure from a pump or tank. On a Lancelin or Nilgen block that often means bore water, reticulation chemicals or salt-affected garden water heading back toward the tap you drink from. Sandy soils, heavy irrigation and dual supplies all raise the risk. A testable prevention device sits at the boundary or the hazard and holds the line, so what leaves the main is the only thing that reaches your glass.
Annual testing, lodged and logged
Every testable backflow device in WA must be tested within twelve months of installation and every year after by an accredited plumber. We carry the calibrated gauges, run the full test on your reduced-pressure zone or double-check valve, and record the result. If it passes, the certificate is lodged with the water authority and a copy goes to you. If it fails, we tell you why on the spot and quote the repair before anything else happens. No vague callbacks, no surprise invoice.
